C’est aujourd’hui au tour de Yahoo, après Google il y a quinze jours, de mettre le logiciel à jour. Celui qui permet d’installer des widgets dans Windows et Mac OS X. Ces mini applications sont de plus en plus populaires (horloge, lecteur multimédia, calendrier, moniteur système…).

A ce jour, c’est Yahoo qui en propose le plus (on en recense plus de 4400 !). En même temps, il ne pouvait pas rester sans rien faire, au vu de la montée en puissance de Microsoft avec le lancement de Vista.

La version 4 de Yahoo Widgets n’est pour l’instant pratiquement que disponible en anglais (disponible sur Windows XP, Vista et Mac OS X). Yahoo annonce cependant (d’ailleurs comme un certain Google) l’optimisation du logiciel qui réduit la consommation des ressources système de 40%. Yahoo fait tous les efforts possibles pour permettre la création de nouveaux outils de conception. Seulement voilà, tout ceci ressemble de plus en plus au design de Vista…


Autre évolution, la barre d’outil qui contient les widgets peut désormais s’accrocher presque n’importe où sur l’écran, et l’on peut faire défiler verticalement son contenue. L’utilisation des Widgets a également été simplifiée. Yahoo en profite aussi pour annoncer la disponibilité d’un widget pour Flickr (le concurrent de Picasa).

Yahoo commence à rattraper son retard par rapport à Google et Microsoft, mais il garde son principal défaut : on ne peut toujours pas insérer les widgets sur la page d’accueil personnalisée d’un internaute sur My Yahoo. Yahoo! Widgets Engine gains in speed from the release of version 4, while its interface looks like more and more of the one proposed by Microsoft to manage functions in Vista.

It is today Yahoo’s turn, after Google fifteen days ago, to update the software. The one that makes possible to install widgets in Windows and Mac OS X. These mini applications are increasingly popular (clock, multi-media reader, calendar, monitor system...).

To date, it is Yahoo that proposes some more (we count more than 4400!). At the same time, it was impossible for Yahoo to stay static, with Microsoft rise on Vista.

Version 4 of Yahoo Widgets is for the moment practically only available in English (available on Windows XP, Vista and Mac OS X). Yahoo however announces (moreover like a certain Google) the optimization of the software which reduces the consumption of system resources by 40%. Yahoo makes all possible efforts to allow creation of new design tools. But it looks like, more and more, to Vista design...


Another evolution, the bar of tool which contains widgets can from now on cling almost anywhere on the screen, and we can make its contained ravel vertically. The use of Widgets was also simplified. Finally, Yahoo took the opportunity to announce the availability of a widget for Flickr (Picasa’s competitor).

Yahoo starts to make up for its lost time compared to Google and Microsoft, but it keeps its principal defect: we still cannot insert widgets on the banner personalized page of a Net surfer on My Yahoo.
